I was first introduced to psychology in the late 1980’s by a progressive and socially minded school principal. With her inquiring mind and obvious passion for her subject, she took my hand and walked me into the world of Carl Gustav Jung, the father of Analytical Psychology. It was a world of concepts that, although beyond my ability to completely grasp, were fascinating and captivating to me.

With this experience as my inspiration, I decided to become a psychologist, to explore the world of ancient mysteries and collective knowledge that spanned the width and breadth of humanity and held the wisdom of the ages.

It was here that I first met with the idea of Anima and Animus, the key Jungian representations of the male and female within all of us. As the daughter of Italian immigrants, I have always known the word ‘Anima’ to mean Soul. The word heralds back to our Latin ancestry where both Anima and Animus represent what Jung came to describe as the Soul or the true Self.

From those early days, my professional journey has taken me to unexpected places, to worlds I never imagined as a schoolgirl. I have traversed landscapes that have been both beautiful and frightening. I have delved into the darker side of the human experience and have immersed myself in the joy and beauty of human healing.

It is this duality that has been the hallmark of my work in the field of child trauma. My work has led me into a constant exploration and search for meaning, both clinical and beyond the confines of our scientific constructs.

I have travelled far since my first introduction to Jung! Today, I am informed by the constantly evolving research and practice in the child and adult fields of Complex Trauma. I consider my work to be primarily about Developmental Trauma and my practice is strongly influenced by the research and principles of Attachment and Resilience.

With Anima Consulting, my philosophy is to balance the rigorous clinical knowledge and skills I have gained over the past twenty years with an awareness of the human experience of the work we do.
